The Mobile Phone Society
Mobile phones are everywhere. Today, there are possibly very few people you see without a mobile phone in their handbags or in their pocket. It has become an essential part of everyday human living. With today’s advancements in technology, you can play games on your mobile, talk, text, take photos and even record yourself playing your guitar as you leave a message to tell any caller that you cannot take the call at the moment. But is it really all that safe?
Now that it is practically acceptable for 8 year olds to have a mobile phone just to keep in touch with their mother and father and to tell their friends are they “going out for a game a football” or, if they want to arrange to go to the cinema with all their mates. You do have to wonder about reports about the alleged radiation that is inherent in mobile phones. Some laugh off these suggestions but there have been reported deaths as some people have died of cancerous cysts caused by their mobile phone.
Mobile phones are also ideal items for thugs when you’re getting mugged. There have been countless stolen mobile phones that go on in The Square, in town or even rough areas of Dublin such as Inchicore. It may be advisable to take your mobile “in case you get lost” which is always what parents would say to children but in worst case scenarios, if children do get lost (by that I mean kidnapped or if there mobile is stolen), they won’t be able to call home. The draconian measure would probably be to leave it at home but that’s never going to work because people will always bring them out with them and sure if it gets stolen, they can always buy new ones…..since in truth older versions of mobile phones are still available and are usually much cheaper when they first came out so they are easily replaceable.
But mobile phones are useful in case of business meetings and arrangements in general so even the downsides are wiped away in the end. It’s just with the advent of ringtone companies swindling people into subscriptions just so that they can get one tone of the “Crazy Frog” or the latest Girls Aloud song for their mobile. But do they really need to play all 45 ringtones on the bus over and over again and loudly? It can be really annoying.

This is just something I'm keeping from some class - feel free to disagree strongly
